PAK vs SA, 2nd Test, Port Elizabeth : Pakistan win levels series in South Africa (1-1)

Younis Khan and Kamran Akmal put on a 99-run unbroken stand Monday for Pakistan to win the second Test by five wickets and tie the three-match series against South Africa at 1-1.
Coming together at 92-5, Younis finished on 67 not out and Akmal hit nine boundaries in his unbeaten 57 as Pakistan reached 191-5 before tea on the fourth day at St George's Park. Pollock took two for 47 and Ntini finished with two for 50. South Africa had scored 331 in its second innings. Pakistan was dismissed in its first innings for 265 in reply to South Africa's 124. The third Test starts on Friday in Cape Town, but Smith is unsure if Ntini or Pollock will play.

Pakistan on road to victory

Mohammad Asif and Danish Kaneria wore down the resistance of South Africa's batsmen and gave Pakistan a chance of gaining a series-levelling win on the third day of the second Test at St George's Park.
Needing 191 to win, Pakistan were eight for no wicket at the close. Opening bowler Asif took five for 76 and leg-spinner Kaneria claimed four for 105 as South Africa were bowled out for 331 in their second innings. Jacques Kallis made 91 for South Africa. No other batsmen could make a half-century although there were useful contributions down the order, including a last wicket stand of 41 between Andre Nel and Makhaya Ntini.

South Africa face tough battle

Pakistan had South Africa on the rack at close of play on the second day of the second Castle Lager Test at St George's Park on Saturday. ,br> Needing 142 to make Pakistan bat again, the Proteas were 115 for three, still trailing the visitors by 26 runs. The day started brilliantly for South Africa when Makhaya Ntini became the third South African and 21st bowler to take 300 runs when he dismissed Mohammad Sami for 10 in the seventh over of the day. After taking the wicket, a jubilant Ntini raised his shirt to reveal a t-shirt with the handwritten words "Mdingi Express 300 wickets" - Mdingi being the name of the village in the Transkei where he grew up. Ntini joined Allan Donald and Shaun Pollock as the third South African to achieve this milestone.

Shoaib Akhtar back with a bang

Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar made a sensational return to Test cricket as wickets tumbled on the first day of the second Test against South Africa at St George's Park yesterday. Shoaib took four for 26 as South Africa were bowled out for 124, their lowest total against Pakistan. But Makhaya Ntini hit back for South Africa, taking four for 18 as Pakistan stumbled to 135 for six at the close.
Pakistan were looking in control with Younis Khan playing a solid anchor innings before he fended a catch to gully off Ntini in the penultimate over of the day. Then Kamran Akmal, who shared a 56-run stand with Younis, was out four balls later when he hooked Andre Nel to deep square leg. Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq did not bat because of a sore shoulder but will bat today.

South Africa likely to play Gibbs in second test

South Africa have confirmed that Herschelle Gibbs is likely to be play in the second cricket test against Pakistan in Port Elizabeth.
Gibbs is appealing against a two test ban for directing racist remarks at Pakistani supporters during the first test at Centurion. The South African captain Graeme Smith says the batsman is keen to play despite the controversy. Pakistan vs South Africa Second Test at Port Elizabeth

Venue : Port Elizabeth

St Georges Park Cricket Ground in Port Elizabeth South Africa is the home of Port Elizabeth Cricket Club, one of the oldest cricket clubs in South Africa, and of the Eastern Province Club. It is also one of the venues at which Test matches and One Day Internationals are played in South Africa.
The ground hosted its first Test match in March 1889 when England defeated South Africa by eight wickets. This was South Africas first ever Test match. As of 2005, there have been 21 Test matches played at the ground of which South Africa has won 8 and their opponents 9 with four draws.
The first One-day International played at the ground was in December 1992 when South Africa beat India by 6 wickets. As of 2005, there have been 25 One-day Internationals played at the ground including five in the Cricket World Cup in 2003.
