PAK vs SA Third ODI : Rain foils South Africa and Pakistan

The third one-day international between South Africa and Pakistan was abandoned after persistent rain halted the game at the halfway stage.
Pakistan won the toss and decided to bat but were immediately pegged back by Makhaya Ntini who picked up the wickets of both opening batsmen in the same over to leave the score on 21-2. Mohammad Yousuf was the mainstay of the innings, scoring an excellent 79 in tricky conditions. He was ably supported by Younis Kahn (22) and Shoaib Malik (41).
The innings wobbled when Kahn was out and captain Inzamam-ul-Haq was trapped lbw by Andrew Hall, however. Hall was drafted into the side after Andre Nel sustained a foot injury and fully justified his selection with figures of 4-35 from his ten overs. Malik and Yousuf fell in quick succession with the score on 165-6 and the tourists needed all-rounders Abdul Razzaq (27) and Azhar Mahmood (26) to help them post a competitive score.
But the rain, which had caused a brief interruption earlier in the day, began to fall heavily with one ball of the Pakistan innings remaining and play was later abandoned. A run chase under the floodlights for South Africa could have been interesting given the high scoring which has so far dominated the series but spectators and players alike were robbed of the spectacle. The series remains level at 1-1 with two games remaining
